I have been attending church services all of my life. When I was growing up, church was a weekly reminder that there was something more boring than school. All I wanted to do (if it was just one Sunday night of my adolescence) was to stay home on Sunday night and watch the Wonderful World of Disney on television. I don't think that ever happened; my parents never gave me the option. Now I am glad they didn't.

Today, there is a Disney Channel dedicated to nothing but that magical kingdom, most Sunday nights are scheduled with small group meetings in homes, and school has never been more challenging. (I am involved in a Master's of Theology program), but I have learned to appreciate the House of God more than ever.

It's not boring to come into the presence of the One who has given me everything; forgiveness, freedom, hope, eternal life, and yes - grace and mercy. I am no longer looking out the windows of the sanctuary on Sunday morning longing to be somewhere else. I am in the presence of my Father, gathered with my family, and thinking about the wonderful world of the Kingdom of God.
